3 Ways Water Helps your Metabolism

If you got to the end of today and can’t’ remember drinking water you wouldn’t be alone. But would you be surprised if I told you this is one of the reasons you may be struggling to lose weight? It’s something so basic that we forget how powerful it can be.

As a rough rule you need to be drinking 35ml per kg of body weight which may seem like a lot compared to what you drink now but it is correct. Break it down into chunks through the day. If you weigh 100kg you have 3.5L to drink so start with getting 1L in before 10am, another 1L by 12pm then another 1L by 3pm leaving just 500ml or 2 cups before you go to bed.

Still sceptical?

Here’s 3 ways water supports your metabolism:

1.      Water helps us with waste elimination by supporting our kidneys and bowel movements. If you aren’t drinking enough your poo dries out, it’s harder to get rid of and not as efficient. And your kidneys work harder as the toxins they are meant to get rid of are concentrated and you don’t empty your bladder so often leaving a backlog for them to deal with. Do yourself a favour and drink some water.

2.      Being hydrated helps metabolic functions work more efficiently. And that includes more efficiently burning fat! In fact, the body requires water to burn fat at all. If that’s not a good reason to drink water I don’t know what is!

3.      We support our digestion by drinking more water which in turn means we are getting more nutrients from our food. These nutrients are necessary for metabolic functions. This ensures you have the nutrients you need to make sure all those metabolic pathways are functioning the best they can so you feel the best you can!
